A man and his wife were killed and three others injured as a freight train hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at a rail crossing in Cumilla on Wednesday morning.

The deceased were identified as Md Farid Muhshi, 60, son of Lak Mia Munshi, and his wife Payara Begum, 50, hailing from Gajaria village of Gunaighar union under Debidwar upazila of the district.

The Dhaka-bound freight train collided with the auto-rickshaw at Shasangachha Railway Crossing near the Cumilla Railway Station at 6:50am, leaving four passengers including two women and the driver of the auto-rickshaw injured, Station Master Shafikur Rahman said quoting locals.

The injured were taken to Cumilla Medical College Hospital where Farid Munshi succumbed to his injuries at 8:30am and his wife Payara Begum breathed his last at 10:00am, he said.
